Celebrating Bruce Fowler, Thursday, February 13, 2020, 1:30-3:30 p.m., Evergreen Senior’s Centre, 683 Woolwich Street.

Sadly, eighteen-year club member Bruce Fowler passed away in January. A club member wrote the following poem in memory of Bruce.

Anything to Participate!
Lawn bowling. His summer pastime and passion. Quiet, gentle game befitting a quiet, gentle man.
Shy. Didn't talk much. While conversation flowed all around only a faint smile dispelled the impression he wasn't paying attention.
Small in stature, moved very slowly. Remarkably in contrast was his bowling—more
methodical, intentional. Focused.
Then the January 14 shock. "Man killed in crosswalk by driver running red light...pickleball paddle and big white running shoes left strewn nearby. On his way home from playing...pickleball."
Wait! This slow-moving man played pickleball? A fast-moving activity? Yes, pickleball. And darts, cross country skiing, 10-pin bowling.
A friend's comment: "He would do anything to participate." That's the person most didn't know.
A man almost 80...widower of one year...no immediate family...would do anything to participate!
Was that evident? Did it show in his slow-moving quiet ways? No. His shy, quiet, ways hid a more stalwart, steady inner manner.
He was, in fact, a pretty normal guy. Just one human being making his way through life
his way. His way!
And none can ask for more!
